TWO FILM TIE-INS PERFORMING WELL

Two heart-breakers, A Mighty Heart and Atonement, are presently both doing very well at both the box office and the bookstore.

A Mighty Heart (Virago) is Mariane Pearl’s riveting account of the tragic murder in Pakistan of her husband Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter. The movie starring Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl is packing them in at cinemas around the world. Annie saw the movie last week and enjoyed it, she also great enjoyed the book.

Atonement (Vintage), Ian McEwan’s novel that many rate his finest, and probably should have won him the Booker in 2001, has also been made into a movie which is drawing the crowds. And starring the beautiful pair of Keira Knightley and James McAvoy I guess that is not surprising. My advice though is read the book, it is much more satisfying and believable than the movie. The Dunkirk scene in the movie offended me. And if you have already read the book, give the movie a miss, as the book is so much more satisfying. It is a great novel in my opinion.

Booksellers report a strong demand for both titles that have been reissued, of course, with movie tie-in covers.
