Beijing Book Fair to see more exhibitors despite downturn
02.09.09 The Bookseller

The hosts of Beijing Book Fair are expecting a bigger and better year than 2008, when the event was moved 60km away from the Chinese capital in deference to the Olympics, shrugging off concerns about the impact of the downturn. Publishing Perspectives reports that more than 1,500 publishers - 800 foreign and 700 domestic - are expected to exhibit, up from 1,390 last year. In total, 56 countries will be represented at the fair, which takes place from Thursday to Sunday (3rd - 7th September), compared with 51.
In a letter introducing this year’s event, Jiao Guoying, acting president of the China National Publications Import and Export Corporation — the organization responsible for the BIBF — said the fair was prioritising efforts to “improve its traditional book show and special shows of periodicals, children’s books, cartoons and animation, printing and new technology."
