FT/Goldman Sachs shortlist announced

Independent publisher Profile has made the six-strong shortlist for the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award, revealed today, with Frank Portnoy's The Match King. It will be battling for the prize against Random House, Penguin, and one from Princeton University Press.

The prize rewards "the most compelling and enjoyable insight into modern business issues, including management, finance and economics" with £30k going to the winning author and the other five shortlisted authors receiving £5,000 each.

The winner will be announced at an awards dinner in London on 29th October, at which the Rt Hon Lord Mandelson, UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, will be keynote speaker.
Judge Lionel Barber, editor of the Financial Times, said: "This year’s shortlist is outstanding. The books range from histories of the Depression era to a contemporary account of the recent market crash. We also have books from top business executives including a personal assessment of the state of India and its place in the global economy."

The shortlist:

Good Value: Reflections on Money, Morality and an Uncertain World by Stephen Green (Allen Lane UK, Grove/Atlantic USA)

Imagining India: Ideas for the New Century by Nandan Nilekani (Allen Lane UK, The Penguin Press USA)

In Fed We Trust: Ben Bernanke’s War on the Great Panic by David Wessel (Crown Business)

Lords of Finance: 1929, The Great Depression, and the Bankers who Broke the World by Liaquat Ahamed (William Heineman/Random House UK, The Penguin Press USA)

The Match King: Ivar Kreuger and the Financial Scandal of the Century by Frank Partnoy (Profile Books UK, Public Affairs USA)
