Random House goes into games development
01.03.10 The Bookseller

Random House US has created an in-house team to design original stories for video games, and to provide "story advice" for games already in development, the Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the newspaper, the publisher has "started looking for a buyer for two original projects", one of which is a fantasy adventure, the other a horror thriller.

Each of the proposed games has a cast of characters, suggested stories, and an analysis of the type of gamer in mind.

"We need new revenue streams," Gina Centrello, publisher of the Random House Publishing Group, told the WSJ.

Roughly 15 employees are involved in the new venture. The publisher is also planning to make use of some of its authors to help write storylines for the games, as well as write books based on them.
