George R.R. Martin’s new novel sets first day sales records

  • A , National Post, Jul 15, 2011

  • It seems George R.R. Martin needn’t have gotten so riled up about the 180 copies of A Dance With Dragons that went missing earlier this month – now officially available the novel sold 298,000 copies on its first day, the most first-day copies sold of any book in the U.S. or Canada this year.
  • The book is the fifth installment of Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series, which is the basis for HBO’s Emmy-nominated show Game of Thrones, which has been signed for a second season. The books are published by Bantam, an imprint of Random House. There are more than 8.5 million copies of Martin’s novel in print and digital, and just this year Bantam has gone back to the press 120 times, totaling 4 million copies of his first four novels: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows.
