8:15 John Harris
British journalist and author John Harris writes regularly for the Guardian on politics, popular culture and music, most recently on the phone hacking scandal. His books include The Last Party: Britpop, Blair and the Demise of English Rock (2003, Fourth Estate), So Now Who Do We Vote For? (2005, Faber & Faber), a voting primer for the general election of 2005, and Hail! Hail! Rock'n'Roll: the Ultimate Guide to the Music, the Myths and the Madness (2009, Sphere).

8:40 James Marsh
Film director James Marsh won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for his film Man on Wire. His new documentary, Project Nim, is based on the book Nim Chimpsky: the Chimp Who Would Be Human by Elizabeth Hess (Random House, ISBN: 9780553382778), and is screening at this year's New Zealand International Film Festival (23 July in Auckland, 6, 8, 9, 12 August in Wellington; other centres follow).

Australian mathematician Peter Donnelly is Professor of Statistical Science and Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics in the University of Oxford. He is visiting New Zealand to deliver his talk, The Gene Revolution: Opportunities and Challenges, for the Sir Neil Waters Lecture Series on three Massey University campuses (Auckland 20 July, Palmerston North 25 July, Wellington 26 July).

Julian Robins is a political reporter for Radio New Zealand. He is in Washington DC reporting on Prime Minister John Key's visit to the United States.

10:05 Paul Theroux
Paul Theroux is a prolific American travel writer and the author of many works of fiction. His books include The Great Railway Bazaar (1975) The Mosquito Coast (1981), Dark Star Safari (2002), and Ghost Train to the Western Star (2008). His latest book is an anthology, The Tao of Travel: Enlightenments from Lives on the Road (Penguin, ISBN: 978-0-241-14464-0).

Michael Smythe is a design enthusiast and practitioner, and the author of New Zealand Design: a History of New Zealand Product Design (Godwit, ISBN: 978-1-86979-574-0).

11:45 Gardening with Kath Irvine
Kath Irvine has spent years teaching permaculture and edible gardening to schools and community groups, and now runs workshops on how to grow food and create edible backyards from her garden on the Kapiti Coast. She will talk about getting ready for the growing season.
