The Silence Beyond - The Press Christchurch Writers Festival

In this not to be missed session, novelists Rachael King and Lloyd Jones talk about The Silence Beyond: Selected Writings by Michael King. Rachael has assembled a collection of her father’s wide-ranging, often personal and some previously unpublished essays, talks and eulogies in the book, highlighting the full scope of talents of one of New Zealand’s greatest modern thinkers.
Michael King was one of New Zealand’s most respected and popular historians. The author of the bestselling The Penguin History of New Zealand and many significant works otherwise, he was a writer of remarkable skill, sensitivity and importance.
Rachael King is an award-winning New Zealand writer and author of two books, Magpie Hall and The Sound of Butterflies
Rachael will be talking with Lloyd Jones, award-winning fiction writer. His bestselling novel Mister Pip won several illustrious prizes and awards including the 2007 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize Best Book Award and the 2007 Montana Medal for fiction. It was also shortlisted for the 2007 Man Booker Prize. The film version is currently under production in Bouganville.
