HEY SHORTY: Tom Cruise is set to play fictional hero Jack Reacher in an upcoming film, according to reports. from stuff.co.nz

Fans of a series of books starring tough guy Jack Reacher are up in arms over reports that Tom Cruise has landed the role of the action hero in an upcoming film.
British tabloid The Daily Star reported Cruise had landed the high-profile role, which is based on the six-foot-five, 18-stone character from Lee Child's wildly popular novels.
But fans say they will boycott the film, based on the ninth book in the series called One Shot, unless a larger, more dominating actor is hired to play Reacher. Cruise is five-foot-seven.
"I will not pay to see this movie. The thought of casting little Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher makes me sick," The Daily Star reported one fan as saying.
In an online forum, another fumed: "What were they thinking? This is wrong on so many levels."
Child has defended the casting decision, saying Reacher's size "is a metaphor for an unstoppable force, which Cruise portrays in his own way".

Footnote:
The Bookman says yes, he is so not the right person to be cast. He's a comparative runt when put alongside Jack Reacher - Reacher weighs in at 115kg, he's a giant of a man, six feet five inches with a 50 inch chest and can kill a man with a single blow. Come on Hollywood, get real. Have another look at those books.

Tom Cruise is sooooo wrong for this. Hollywood obviously values dollars more than credibility. There are so many actors who could make a great Jack Reacher who have presence, off hand there's the likes of Clive Owen, or even Hugh Jackman. Vince Vaughn is 6'5'' Tom Cruise...please...noooooooo

I heard the movie comes out in 2013. That should give Tom Cruise plenty of time to build a steroid regimen, but they may have to shoot the whole movie with him standing on a box.
