Google Buys Zagat Restaurant Guides

Having conquered the World Wide Web, Google is now focused on taking over businesses in the local market.
In a blog post on Thursday, the company announced its acquisition of Zagat reviews, a New York–based brand that has been looking for a buyer since 2008. While Google did not say how much it paid for the restaurant bible, it was likely a hefty sum (Zagat raised $31 million in capital in 2000). Despite its failed attempt to buy Groupon, Google acquired The Dealmap last month, another daily-deal business that aggregates local deals and displays them on a map.
