Calling all Authors! The Ebook Journey - your book in the future

By Melinda Szymanik

Ever wondered about publishing your book in digital formats? Do you know
what’s involved? Previously, getting published the traditional way in print with
books sold in bricks and mortar bookshops was, while not a perfect system, one
that everyone knew and aimed to work within. Writers have watched nervously
as digital publishing has gone from strength to strength. Sales of adult fiction
e-books have flourished.
Now children’s e-books are catching up with ‘475% growth in the US in January 2012 compared with January 2011’ http://www.digitalbookworld.com/2012/e-books-drive-revenue-growth-across-book-trade/.
Suddenly new technology means writers can publish their own material easily
without a crippling financial outlay or boxes of books taking over their basement.
Self publishing isn’t new but now writers of all calibres and genre are willing to
give it a go. So how do you publish your work digitally? What do you need to
do to your manuscript before it can be transformed into downloadable material?
Does a cover matter anymore? And how do you make it available for the variety
of e-readers out there?
And there are hundreds of thousands of e-books available on the Amazon
website and sites of other e-tailers. How do you get potential readers to notice
your book ahead of all these others? And how do you get readers to take an
interest in you as a writer?

New Zealand writers group Kiwiwrite4kidz www.kiwiwrite4kidz.co.nz are
running a workshop -  The E-book Journey: Your book in the future -  at the Albany
campus of Massey University on Saturday April 28th that aims to answer all these
questions and more. Hear from New Zealand and Australian authors who have
been publishing digitally.
Hear from publishing industry professionals on how the e-book phenomenon is changing the book world. Discuss your own book project with editors, book designers and e-publishers.
The cost for the day is $100 for members of Kiwiwrite4kidz and affiliates, $130 for non-members. Check details out here:
