WE BUILT THIS COUNTRY
   BUILDERS’ LABOURERS AND THEIR UNIONS
1787 TO THE FUTURE

    by Humphrey McQueen

The book should be compulsory reading for new and old union officers and organisers; it will certainly challenge them to decide whether they are workers’ representatives or ‘workplace relations practitioners’.
Howard Guille, former secretary of the National Tertiary Education Union.

McQueen has written a remarkable book rich in stories and case studies. Therefore, a review is an incredible challenge; it is easier to recommend reading.
Jan Cremers, University of Amsterdam, CLR-News

The latest offering by radical historian Humphrey McQueen is a cracking yarn. Despite McQueen’s stature as an historian, this is anything but a sterile academic work. The strength of this history is that McQueen takes a side, and you can’t miss it! Throughout, there is the unmistakable clarity that there are bosses and there are workers.
            Alison Thorne, Freedom Socialist Organiser

McQueen holds history – in this case BLF history – up as a mirror in which we can reflect on our present situation, and in which we can see an alternative future. We Built This Country is a text with which readers can engage on numerous levels – it will be a welcome addition and enhancement to what continues to be a proud BLF tradition.

Aidan Moore, former builders’ labourer, The Recorder

All books on our website (www.gouldsbooks.com) are already discounted by 5%.
However, to coincide with our Book Launch of Humphrey McQueen's Book on April 19th, we will have a further 10% discount on all our Labour Movement History books.
From April 6th until April 20th we are having a monster 30% sale in our Kids and Cooking sections
Everything there is much easier to find.  I'm sure you or your kids will find something that they want or like.  Come and have a look.  Its your chance to cook something different tonight and to have new stories for your children/grandchildren to read.
Lots of things have been happening in our shop.  We have completely tidied up and categorised the Kids and Cooking sections.  Now it is much easier to find the books that you want.  We have lots of new secondhand kids and cooking books, so come in and have a look.

Notes from our shop:
It seems that all bricks and mortar bookshops are dropping off like flies.  Sadly, Books on King in Newtown closed last Monday, and many other both new and secondhand bookshops have closed or in the process of doing so.
We are in the same boat – we are struggling financially BUT we are endeavouring to stay open.

We hope you will help us by choosing us as 'your bookshop of choice'- both on the net and by visiting us at the shop.

Thanks for reading,
Goulds
