Rebuck joins authors at Queen's arts celebration

Random House chief executive Gail Rebuck and authors including Jacqueline Wilson, A S Byatt and Antonia Fraser were among the book trade figures in attendance at the Queen's Celebration of the Arts, a Diamond Jubilee celebration event held at the Royal Academy of the Arts on Piccadilly, central London, last night (23rd March).
Julian Barnes, Michael Morpurgo, Penelope Lively, Alan Bennett and Philip Pullman were also present at the event, co-hosted by the four Royal Academies—of Art, Music, Dance and Dramatic Art—that the Queen has served as patron. Some 850 stars from across the arts world, including former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and actors Diana Rigg and Emma Thompson, were invited to the reception.
The Queen also presented two Diamond Jubilee Awards, for people who have made a special contribution to national culture, to choirmaster Gareth Malone and music promoter Harvey Goldsmith.
