TE TAI TAMARIKI - back in business !

Greetings to all our supporters.

Te Tai Tamariki is up and running again!
Our rooms which were in Victoria St above the Children’s Bookshop were demolished last year. Thanks to the generosity of Sheila Sinclair and the Children’s Bookshop we are able to use their staff room for our board meetings, and host small events in the shop. Thanks also to Cressida Bishop, of the Millenium Art Gallery, Blenheim, we have been able to continue with our travelling art exhibitions.

We were able to retrieve some of our possessions following the earthquakes, and are now
stored in various places around town. We did manage to retrieve our computer, but
unfortunately it was badly damaged. Consequently our data base is extremely incomplete.
Please spread the word and contact us with with suppporters’ names and email addresses.
The TeTai Tamariki email address is:- tetaitamariki@gmail.com

We have some exciting events planned.
All events will be held at The Children’s Bookshop, Shop 5, Blenheim Square, 227 Blenheim Rd at 7pm. Admission is free.

Wednesday 9th May -  Panel discussion about the finalists in the New Zealand Post
Children’s Book Awards (winners announced May 16th) Come and hear John McKenzie,
Adrianne Shapland, Bob Docherty and Simon Pollard discuss the finalists and vote on which
book you think will win.

Thursday 21st June -  “Dystopia” Joann Orwin, Jane Higgins and Jilaine Johnson will discuss
this topic which is a theme in many books at the present time. (“Dystopia” is the opposite of
“Utopia”)

Wednesday 18th July -  Book Club This is a book club for adults - parents, teachers, librarians
and the like – to discuss quality, mostly New Zealand, books for children. At this first
meeting the books to be discussed will be “The House that Jack Built” by Gavin Bishop and
“Nanberry” by Jackie French. People will be able to choose future books for discussion and
be able to lead that discussion. How frequently the club meets will be decided at the first
meeting.

We look forward to seeing you at these events.
